Domain Name System (DNS)

A distributed database system for mapping human-readable domain names to IP addresses.

Top-Level Domain (TLD)

The top-level part of a domain name, such as .com, .org, .net, etc.

Second-Level Domain (SLD)

The second-level part of a domain name, such as "example" in example.com.

WHOIS

A protocol for querying the owner and administrator contact information of a domain.

Name Server

A server used for resolving domain names to IP addresses.

URL

A uniform resource locator used for locating web pages, images, files, etc. on the internet.

IP Address

A numerical sequence used to uniquely identify a device on the internet.

Subdomain

A subpart of a domain name, such as "blog" in blog.example.com.

Wildcard Domain

A domain name that allows matching of any characters, such as the wildcard domain *.example.com, which can match blog.example.com and wiki.example.com, etc.

Redirection

Redirecting a web request to another web page or URL.

Domain Parking

The act of registering and maintaining a domain name for the purpose of preserving it or preparing for future use, but not currently using the domain name.

Domain Squatting

The act of registering and controlling a domain name for the purpose of making a profit from others.

Cybersquatting

The act of registering and using a domain name that has been trademarked by someone else.
